Metropolitan Eusebius Resigned from His Office as the Hierarch of South-West America

Post 62 of 445

It has been reported that Catholicos-Patriarch of the East His Holiness Mar Thoma Basilios Paulos II demanded the resignation of Metropolitan Eusebius due to allegations against him which are detrimental to his public witnessing as a bishop. The charges against the bishop have not been sustained in a civil court or ecclesiastical court. With the canonical power invested in him the Catholicos asked the prelate to tender his resignation lest the charges become a public scandal. According to the cannons of the Church the metropolitanate has been placed under his direct jurisdiction since August 5, 2017. An interim arrangement is made for the smooth running of the Diocese with the appointment of Aprem Zachariah, Bishop of Kadampanad, as his auxiliary, who will assume his duties with effect from September 20, 2017.

Diocese of South-West America is one of the dioceses of the Church of Malankara in India, a regional part of the ancient Catholicate of the East. The present Catholicos has a dual role as the universal head of the Catholicate and the metropolitan of Malankara.
