Addis Ababa Ethiopia: Several Ethiopian Orthodox faithful are sad on the plans to build 50000 Protestant houses of worship in the country. Many of them protested in social media platforms and blogs against the news released by the Baptist Press. The Ethiopian Patriarchate nor the Protestant Churches have not commented on the developments.
Photos of pastors praying with the Speaker of the House have appeared in some websites. Many reports state that Protestant style prayers were attempted during the Ethiopian Orthodox Epiphany celebrations.
The annual session of Holy Synod, which was held in the month of October 2015 discussed several strategies to counter the declining number of Orthodox population in Ethiopia. A major decision taken was to launch a 24 hr satellite TV to cover North East Africa , Western Europe, and North America. The TV Channel aims at educating faithful on Orthodox faith and traditions. The Ethiopian Orthodox has lost a considerable number of faithful to Evangelical and Pentecostal movements in the country.
Ethiopian Orthodox Church is one of the ancient Christian communities and second largest Orthodox Church with nearly 45 million faithful worldwide, that stand next to the Russian Church, which is the world’s largest Orthodox Church.
